Silesian Eurasia University's MSc Public Health Keeps Fieldwork in the Student's Own Health System

Silesian Eurasia University has restated the design of its MSc Public Health for the new intake. The programme treats health systems as they are — under-staffed, politically constrained, and full of people who cannot wait for a student to come back from a foreign campus.

Core study covers epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, health-systems management, outbreak response and community engagement. The distinctive requirement is that every major assignment produces something usable in the student's own setting: a surveillance plan, a policy brief, an intervention design with a realistic budget and staffing model.

Tomasz Kowalski, studying from Warsaw, is designing a supervision roster for community health workers that fits existing transport and salary rules rather than an idealised system. "The assignment is not 'describe best practice'," he said. "It is 'design something my district could actually run next year'."

Ethics is taught as an operational skill: consent, data protection, triage under scarcity, and honest communication when the evidence is incomplete. Assessment includes surveillance plans, policy briefs, an economic evaluation and an oral defence of the capstone intervention.

The programme is delivered online with zero tuition. Live seminars are scheduled so that night-shift clinicians can attend at least one session per module; recordings carry captions. The library has expanded its public-health journal subscriptions so that a student is not blocked by paywalls.

Fieldwork is conducted in the student's own health system with a local supervisor and a SEU academic supervisor. Applicants with clinical, nursing, pharmacy, environmental-health, laboratory or ministry backgrounds are encouraged to apply, and the School runs employer briefings for organisations sponsoring staff.

The School also offers the PhD Public Health for those moving into a research career, with advanced epidemiologic methods, biostatistics and implementation science.

Staff across admissions, registry, teaching and student services are told to design every process as if the default student is studying after a full day's work: recorded sessions, published rubrics, named advisers, and a library desk that does not close at the end of one country's office hours. SEU will not pretend a programme is light. Applicants should plan their weekly hours before accepting an offer and ask direct questions at the open webinars if a page reads as vague.

Silesian Eurasia University is a historic British university serving a worldwide digital campus. Founded in 1883, it publishes news that is operational rather than ceremonial: what changed in a programme, who can apply, how assessment works, and how global students get help. Optional on-campus study in Katowice sits alongside fully online pathways. Questions about the claims in this article should go to the office named as author above.
